About

Catalog Entry: Rolleto’s are the Tobacco & Roll’s Co., stylized TAR, newest variant of smoking devices, and feature a filter buried within the base of the roll, and a “[m]ilder, and smoother taste”, along with the ability, …[t]o be inhaled.” ¹

Tobacco, for those who do not know, is typically not fully inhaled when smoked from a traditional cigar or cigarillo. Found originally by Gallawain ² explorers in contact with Northalians ³, the substance was sacred to the savages on the land. Gallawain pilgrim Hadriun Gala noted: “[it’s] [u]sed…by the primitives for their…spiritual practices and…[f]or trade between the innumerable tribes.”  The Valendara [vah-LEN-dah-rah] peoples — native to Sjelhavn [Sjell-havn] — smoked highly decorated alabaster pipes known as Isblomsts [ees-blohmst], (see: an example of the artifact on display in the MKW collection, which is of exquisite make: [471.892.0932]) exhaling the smoke into the dirt, believing the vapors carried their thoughts and offerings to their deities below. Of course, the Valendara were wiped out by the Vind’s but interestingly TAR’s previous cigar campaigns borrowed heavily from this piece of tobacco history (see: the Hesvaland [HESS-vah-lund] caricature from their other works in the MKW collection [various]). However, TAR’s Rolleto campaign would appear to be intentionally straying away from this aesthetic and bit of brand history. We can assume this is used, one: to separate a new product from it’s contemporaries, and two: as inspiration taken from that Hironese art movement, Modernism. Which is identifiable by it’s abstract figures, Avant-garde style, and darker more expressive tones.

Mirian Borronwood, a native to the city of Glory, has produced several works for TAR, with her angular modernist characters and bold typographic choices, nothing like the Firmosian ⁵ art in previous TAR advertising (see: TAR’s Firmosan works in the MKW collection: [various]).
