A TUNE AMONGST
Bawdy Ballads & Love Songs
The Well-Fixed Corsair?def: Pirate Ship / Privateer ;
To the tune of; Lavender Green
One morning in Twilight by the dawn of the day,
My canon in order I straight took my good way;
In search of a ship if the weather proved fair,
To see, could I sieze [sic], a well-fixed corsair.
I met a young damsel, her eyes black as a shoal,
Her skin was as white as the foam there that blows;
I says, āMe fair maiden, why ramble you so?
Can you tell me where a well-fixed corsair do go?ā
Oā, the answer she gave me, oāher answer was, “Aye,
Oāer there the villain, and her booty likewise;
But since youāve been kindly, my darling so fair,
Lets both go together, to blow that well-fixed corsair.”
So she spread out the sheets and aimed for the prize,
I took out my balls and my pricker likewise;
I says, āLock your legs round me, dig in with your heels,
For the closer we get, love, the lessen she keels.ā
And so my gun she did fire at that snauw?def: Small sailing vessel there abreast,
I hulled her amidships, blowing her so my best;
I saw the girl quiver and I knew what Iād done,
I says, āWhat do you think of me number 6 gun?ā
And the answer she gave me, oāher answer was, āyea,
Itās not often young skippers like you come my way;
Oā, but your blowing is good and your balls they play fair;
Why donāt you keep firing at the snauw oāer there?ā
I says, “Well, my powder is wasted and my balls are all gone,
My pricker is limp, and I cannot ram more on;
But meet me tomorrow, and if sheās still there,
Weāll both go together and blow that well-fixed corsair.ā
